Zeno’s paradox
Just as I think I’m getting closer to concluding filming for this project another subject appears who I’m compelled to interview.Interestingly, however, is that as the subject base is broadening (subjects being those who I am interviewing for the project) the theme is narrowing. My process of interviewing is getting closer to the heart of the theme involved, and I feel like I’ve really come to a conclusion that not only is pointed, and focused, but easy to support.
I think back to the original premise and scope of this project and chuckle because it was just so damned huge. No wonder one of the research directors at Stanford’s Media X Lab looked at me cross-eyed when I described to her what I was trying to do. “Maybe you should narrow that down a bit” she said.
I knew that somewhere in the mess was something more specific that I was looking for, and this is why I continued with my shotgun approach for almost six months, and I’m glad I did. I would never have reached the conclusions that I have if I had narrowed my scope earlier on.
Well, I’m 5ooo words into the book portion of creating this project. Tentatively looking at this, the manuscript for the book will probably run out around 40000 words. I hope to have that first draft done by the end of March / middle of April.
After the manuscript is done, I’ll glean a script for the film from that and start editing.
Look for a completed project end of summer ‘08!
Then the real hard work of selling the damned thing begins.
