Head of Steam
Something that hasn’t happened to me for the past three years finally happened again — the emergence of the dogged pursuit of a goal.
I was worried at the last post that I had lost my momentum. The kids’ Spring Break, coupled with a trip to the in-law’s for that Spring Break, and a brief trip to Vegas with my wife, had me coasting on this project. I had a few interviews scheduled, but there was no longer that intense sense of urgency.
Well, it’s back, and I didn’t have to work as hard to regain it as I had feared. Frankly the stepping away from where I was going with the manuscript was a good thing.
The manuscript is up to 17,000 words. I want the first draft to max out around 23 / 25,000 words. I want to reach that point before hopping on a plane to meet up with Heather in Ireland for one of her corporate functions. This will be yet another test, getting in the way of already rebuilt momentum. This is, however, something that I need to do — figure out how to maintain momentum despite other life-events getting in the way.
So what’s next?
I just finished the interviews of three local high school kids yesterday, which went as well as I had hoped. I’m bringing the camera to an elementary school after-school program two weeks from now, and during that same week, or at latest the week after, will film futurist Jamais Cascio, and Stanford researcher Henrik Bennetsen, and that’ll be it for filming.
The first draft should be done by then, so editing of the film — the structure of which will be based on the manuscript — should begin by the end of May at the latest.
A plan is in the works!
